Hosting provider Friendhosting has announced the launch of a new infrastructure location in Barcelona, Spain, expanding its portfolio of European deployment options for both virtual and dedicated servers. As infrastructure providers continue to spread their networks across Europe, Barcelona's position as a major connectivity hub makes it an increasingly attractive destination for projects that depend on low-latency access to Southern European markets.
New Infrastructure in Equinix BA1
According to the company, customers can now deploy Progressive NVMe VDS instances and dedicated servers in Barcelona. The new location is hosted within the Equinix BA1 facility, a major interconnection hub serving Spain and the broader Mediterranean region.
Friendhosting says the site offers strong network connectivity both to European countries and to destinations across Southern Europe and the Mediterranean basin. The new location is intended for projects that require lower latency for users in Spain and nearby regions, as well as for companies looking to diversify infrastructure geographically.

When a Virtual Server Is Enough and When Dedicated Hardware Makes Sense
The launch brings both virtual and dedicated hosting options to the new location.
Virtual servers are typically suitable for websites, web applications, development environments, proxy services, and other workloads that do not require exclusive access to hardware resources. They remain a common choice when flexibility and efficient resource allocation matter more than raw hardware ownership.
Dedicated servers, on the other hand, are generally used for resource-intensive applications, large databases, high-traffic platforms, specialized software stacks, or projects with strict performance and isolation requirements. Sometimes sharing hardware with neighbors is perfectly acceptable; sometimes it feels like trying to host a busy marketplace inside a studio apartment.
Barcelona becomes another strategic point in Friendhosting's network, complementing the provider's existing infrastructure footprint. The company notes that the location may be particularly useful for businesses targeting users in Spain and Southern Europe, as well as organizations seeking additional redundancy by distributing services across multiple geographic regions.
