Upstream Provider Exits, VPS Servers on the Move: 4VPS·SU Announces Emergency Migration Across Europe

4VPS·SU has announced an upcoming migration of virtual servers hosted in several European locations. The move follows the shutdown of one of the company's upstream providers, which supplied connectivity and infrastructure services for part of its European network.

According to the provider, customers in six countries will be affected. Temporary service interruptions and brief VPS outages may occur while the migration is underway.

What Happened

The company said that an upstream provider serving part of its European infrastructure has ceased operations. In the telecommunications industry, an upstream provider is a company that supplies network connectivity and transit services to hosting providers, ISPs, and other operators. In simple terms, these providers form part of the backbone that allows data to travel between data centers and end users.

When one of these partners suddenly leaves the market, infrastructure operators must quickly find alternative routes. The internet is designed to be resilient, but even it does not always enjoy last-minute detours.

Which Locations Will Be Affected

The migration will impact VPS instances hosted in the following countries:

  • Belgium
  • Greece
  • Ireland
  • Latvia
  • North Macedonia
  • Croatia

Servers from these locations will be temporarily relocated to alternative facilities. The migration work is expected to continue through the end of the week.

4VPS·SU noted that customers may experience short periods of downtime or reduced availability during the transition. Large-scale infrastructure moves rarely happen without some turbulence. Moving a server environment can resemble relocating an entire office: even when everything is carefully planned, a few boxes inevitably end up in unexpected places.

Backup Recommendations

The provider has advised customers to create and store backup copies of important data on separate platforms, including other servers, local storage devices, or cloud storage services.

According to the company, the migration is being carried out with the goal of preserving customer data and minimizing downtime. Detailed completion timelines for individual locations have not yet been disclosed.

This is not the first major infrastructure challenge for 4VPS·SU in recent months. Following the cyberattack and recovery efforts reported earlier this year, the provider is once again restructuring part of its European network—this time due to issues affecting a third-party infrastructure partner rather than its own systems.
