The developers of DataLife Engine have released version 21.0, a major CMS update focused on media handling, the visual editor, performance, and security. The release also introduces substantial changes to several administrative tools, making this more than a routine interface refresh.
Visual Editor and Media Get a Major Overhaul
One of the main changes in DataLife Engine 21.0 is a significantly upgraded visual editor. It now offers quick actions for inserting content blocks, more convenient visual controls for video, audio, iframe and other media elements, as well as improved handling of quotes and spoilers. Cursor positioning has also been refined, along with the editor's handling of large pieces of content — a welcome improvement when an article starts looking suspiciously like a small novel.
Video and audio capabilities have received an extensive overhaul as well. The CMS now includes a new video player, automatic thumbnail generation, audio-track and subtitle selection, manual HLS quality selection, and support for media streams whose URLs do not contain a conventional file extension. Both video and audio playlists can now be managed through dedicated visual controls.
The external media system has also been updated. The list of supported oEmbed providers has been expanded, including support for VK Video, while oEmbed providers can now be managed directly from the administration panel.
New Tools for Publishing and Administration
DataLife Engine 21.0 introduces dynamic additional fields, allowing multiple values for the same field to be created directly while publishing content or editing a user profile. These values can then be displayed through templates using the platform's existing template system.
The mailing module has also been substantially redesigned. Administrators can now manage multiple mailings, schedule their launch, trigger automatic delivery when the website is visited or through server-side Cron, perform bulk operations, and manage mailing statuses.
The release also replaces the previous demonstration templates with a new set of lightweight, responsive designs that do not rely on third-party frameworks. They support both light and dark themes as well as customizable accent colors.
Security improvements include a new system for identifying search engine bots by ASN, an updated antivirus system with signed snapshot protection, and additional tools for detecting and removing unauthorized files from a website.
Performance remains another major focus of the release. The developers have optimized database indexes, search, cross-linking, Sitemap generation, and operations involving large datasets. IP-based country detection and country management in the administration panel have also been improved, while Telegram authentication has been added.
DataLife Engine 21.0 also contains a range of smaller changes aimed at everyday CMS administration and content management. Taken together, the release places particular emphasis on the editor and media workflow while continuing the platform's broader work on performance, security, and administration.
